E-Discovery for Bridged Conversations

SyncRivo does not provide e-discovery or legal hold features. Bridged messages live on each platform, so each platform's native e-discovery tools apply.

The e-discovery problem in multi-platform environments

Legal holds in large enterprises increasingly span both Slack and Microsoft Teams. When a conversation is bridged across platforms, each side of it lives on a different platform. SyncRivo does not provide e-discovery tooling; it posts bridged messages into the connected channels, so the conversation is present on each platform and can be collected with each platform's native tools.

E-discovery workflow for bridged channels

  • 1

    Legal hold initiated

Legal team places a hold on relevant Slack channels and/or Teams channels via native platform tools (Slack Legal Hold, Microsoft Purview).

  • 2

    Collect from each platform

Bridged messages are posted into the connected channels, so collect them from each platform's native export or e-discovery tool.

  • 3

    Identify bridged channels

Use the SyncRivo dashboard to see which channels are connected, so the collection covers every side of a bridged conversation.

  • 4

    Activity context

SyncRivo's activity log and security event history (JSON export) can add operational context; they are not a message archive.

What SyncRivo does and does not do

No legal hold or export pipeline

SyncRivo has no legal hold policies, hold storage or EML/MBOX export. It does not integrate with e-discovery review platforms.

Message data handling

Message content is not stored on the normal relay path. SyncRivo keeps source and destination message IDs so replies, edits, deletes and reactions reach the right message on each platform. Edits and deletes are synced to the bridged copies, so a deleted message is also deleted on the connected platforms unless an admin turns in-place delete off for that connection.

Admin controls relevant to legal teams

Admins can switch in-place edits and in-place deletes on or off per connection, and can see which channels are bridged. Review these settings with your legal team, because they affect what the bridged copy on each platform shows after an edit or delete.

Platform-specific behavior

Here is where bridged messages live on each messaging platform we support, for collection with that platform's own tools. SyncRivo does not provide e-discovery export on any platform.

PlatformBehaviorKnown limitation
SlackBridged messages are posted into Slack channels and are covered by Slack's own exports and legal holds.Messages from bots and apps are not relayed.
Microsoft TeamsBridged messages are posted into Teams by the SyncRivo app and are available to Microsoft Purview.Channel inbound requires the app installed to the team.
Google ChatBridged messages are posted into Google Chat spaces and are available to Google Vault where configured.Inbound edits, deletes and reactions depend on Workspace Events subscriptions.
Zoom Team ChatBridged messages are posted into Zoom channels from the SyncRivo app.Messages are posted from the app, not as the original sender.
Cisco WebexBridged messages are posted into Webex spaces.Emoji reactions are not synced on Webex.

Frequently asked questions

How does SyncRivo support e-discovery across Slack and Teams?
SyncRivo does not provide e-discovery exports or legal holds. Because bridged messages are posted into the destination channel, each platform holds its own copy of the bridged conversation, which that platform's e-discovery tools can search. SyncRivo keeps an activity log and security event history (JSON export).
Does SyncRivo replace Microsoft Purview or Slack Compliance Exports for e-discovery?
No. Microsoft Purview covers Teams content and Slack exports cover Slack content, including bridged messages posted into those platforms. SyncRivo does not add a separate e-discovery layer.
Can SyncRivo place specific users or channels under legal hold?
No. Legal holds are the source platform's responsibility (for example Slack Legal Holds or Microsoft Purview Legal Hold). SyncRivo does not store message content on the normal relay path, so it has no message archive to hold.
What export formats does SyncRivo support for e-discovery?
SyncRivo does not offer e-discovery export formats. The dashboard activity export is JSON only.
