Cisco Webex and Zoom are two of the most widely deployed enterprise collaboration platforms. When organizations on different platforms need to communicate, their messaging layers — Webex Spaces and Zoom Team Chat — have no native interoperability.

This guide walks you through bridging Webex and Zoom Team Chat with real-time bidirectional messaging using SyncRivo in approximately 20 minutes. Meeting invitation links from both platforms cross the bridge as clickable URLs. No code, no guest accounts, no forced migration.

5 Steps to Bridge Webex and Zoom Team Chat

1

Create a SyncRivo account

Go to syncrivo.ai and sign up using email — no credit card required. After verification you land on the SyncRivo dashboard.

2

Connect Webex via OAuth

Click "Add Platform" → Cisco Webex. Sign in as a Webex administrator. Grant: spark:messages_read, spark:messages_write, spark:rooms_read, spark:memberships_read. SyncRivo creates a Webex bot — add it to each Webex Space you want to bridge (Space → People → Add people & bots → enter bot email).

3

Connect Zoom Team Chat

Click "Add Platform" → Zoom Team Chat. Sign in as a Zoom account owner or admin. Grant: chat_channel:read:admin, chat_message:read:admin, chat_message:write:admin, user:read:admin. If Zoom app installation is restricted by admin policy, the account owner must complete this step.

4

Map Webex Spaces to Zoom channels

SyncRivo discovers Webex Spaces where the bot is a member and Zoom Team Chat channels. Create mappings: Webex Space on the left, Zoom channel on the right. Configure sync direction and content filters.

5

Configure identity mapping and activate

For same-email-domain orgs, enable Auto-mapping. For different email domains, upload a CSV of Webex emails to Zoom emails. Test both directions — including a meeting link — verify identity, then click Activate All Mappings.

What Syncs Between Webex and Zoom Team Chat

SyncRivo bridges persistent messaging between Webex Spaces and Zoom Team Chat channels. Both platforms' meeting invitation links are forwarded as clickable URLs. In-meeting chat is excluded.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue: Webex bot does not appear in Space after OAuth authorization

Cause: The Webex OAuth was completed but the SyncRivo bot was not added to the target Webex Spaces. Webex requires explicit bot membership for each Space.

Fix: In each Webex Space you want to bridge: click the Space name → People → Add people & bots → enter the SyncRivo bot email address (found in SyncRivo Dashboard → Platforms → Cisco Webex → Bot Details). After adding the bot, return to SyncRivo and click "Refresh Spaces" to confirm discovery.

Issue: Zoom authorization fails with "You don't have permission to install this app"

Cause: Zoom app installation is restricted by your organization's Zoom Admin Portal app permission policy.

Fix: In Zoom Admin Portal → Advanced → App Marketplace → App Permissions: add SyncRivo to the approved apps list, or temporarily set permissions to "All users" for initial setup. Alternatively, a Zoom account owner can complete the authorization — account owners bypass app permission restrictions. After the initial connection, app permission policies can be re-applied without affecting the existing SyncRivo connection.

Issue: Webex messages reach Zoom but Zoom messages do not appear in Webex

Cause: The Zoom Event Subscription (webhook notifying SyncRivo of new Zoom messages) was not created, or the Webex spark:messages_write permission was not granted.

Fix: First, verify the Zoom Event Subscription: Zoom Marketplace Developer Console → SyncRivo app → Feature → Event Subscriptions → confirm chat_message.sent is active with the correct SyncRivo endpoint URL. Second, verify Webex permissions: in Webex Developer Portal → My Apps → SyncRivo → Scopes → confirm spark:messages_write is listed. If either is missing, run Reconnect in SyncRivo Dashboard for the affected platform.

Issue: Messages appear under "SyncRivo Bot" instead of sender's real name

Cause: Identity mapping between Webex users and Zoom users has not been configured.

Fix: Navigate to SyncRivo Dashboard → Identity Mapping. For organizations where Webex and Zoom use the same corporate email domain, enable Auto-mapping — SyncRivo resolves identities by matching email addresses via spark:people_read (Webex) and user:read:admin (Zoom). For organizations with different email domains on each platform, upload a CSV with two columns: Webex email and Zoom email. After mapping, future bridged messages display the sender's real name and avatar on both sides.
