Cisco Webex + Google Chat Integration: Complete 2026 Setup Guide

Running Cisco Webex for your enterprise messaging and Webex Calling — but collaborating with partners or acquired companies on Google Workspace (Google Chat)? The two platforms cannot exchange messages natively. This guide explains why, and shows you how to bridge them in under 20 minutes using SyncRivo.

Why Webex and Google Chat Can't Exchange Messages Natively

Cisco Webex is built on Cisco's proprietary Webex Platform APIs and Cisco identity infrastructure. Google Chat is built on the Google Workspace Chat API and Google Identity — part of Google's closed enterprise ecosystem. There is no native cross-platform messaging protocol between them.

Critically, neither Mio nor NextPlane support this pair:

  • Mio supports four platform pairs (Google Chat↔Teams, Google Chat↔Slack, Zoom↔Teams, Zoom↔Slack) — Webex is absent from all four. Mio has zero Webex support.
  • NextPlane OpenHub focuses on Teams↔Google Chat and Slack↔Google Chat federation — no Webex support whatsoever.

SyncRivo is the only enterprise platform that supports all five major messaging platforms — including all Webex pairs — through direct API connections with no hub intermediary.

What You Can Bridge: Webex ↔ Google Chat

Real-time bidirectional channel messaging. Webex spaces sync with Google Chat Spaces in under 100ms. A message in a Webex space appears in the mapped Google Chat Space within a second — and vice versa. Full thread context, identity attribution, file attachments.

No guest accounts required. Cisco users stay in Webex. Google Workspace users stay in Google Chat. SyncRivo routes between them without requiring either side to create accounts on the other platform.

Identity resolution. SyncRivo matches users by email address across both platforms. Messages appear attributed to the real sender name on each side — not from a generic bot account.

Step-by-Step: Bridging Webex and Google Chat with SyncRivo

Step 1: Authorize Cisco Webex

In SyncRivo, click "Add Platform" → Cisco Webex. Complete the Webex OAuth2 authorization using your Webex Control Hub administrator credentials. SyncRivo registers as a Webex bot with Room Read, Message Write, and Webhook permissions. Takes approximately 3 minutes.

Step 2: Create a Google Workspace Service Account

In the Google Cloud Console, create a service account and enable the Google Chat API for your project. In the Google Admin Console, configure domain-wide delegation with the required Chat API scopes. Download the service account JSON credentials. A Google Workspace Super Administrator must complete this step. Takes approximately 8 minutes.

Step 3: Authorize Google Chat in SyncRivo

In SyncRivo, click "Add Platform" → Google Chat. Upload the service account JSON credentials. SyncRivo connects to the Google Chat API on behalf of your Google Workspace organization.

Step 4: Map Webex Spaces to Google Chat Spaces

In the SyncRivo dashboard, pair Webex spaces with Google Chat Spaces. Configure sync direction (bidirectional or one-way) and message types — text messages, thread replies, and file attachments.

Step 5: Test and Go Live

Send a test message from a Webex space and verify it appears in the mapped Google Chat Space. Reply from Google Chat and verify the reply appears in the Webex space thread. Enable bridges for all mapped pairs.

Common Use Cases

Post-M&A Day-1 Interoperability. A Cisco-standardized enterprise acquires a Google Workspace company. SyncRivo bridges Webex spaces to Google Chat Spaces without requiring migration, guest accounts, or directory trust — both organizations communicate natively from Day 1.

Enterprise Partner Operations. A Cisco-licensed financial institution or telecom working operationally with a Google Workspace-native digital agency or technology partner. SyncRivo eliminates guest account proliferation with a direct per-engagement channel bridge.

Higher Education. Universities standardized on Google Workspace (Google Chat for student and faculty messaging) maintaining Cisco Webex under campus Cisco networking agreements. SyncRivo bridges administrative Webex channels with departmental Google Chat Spaces.

Compliance & Security

SyncRivo's zero-storage architecture routes message content through a stateless event pipeline and delivers it directly to the destination platform API — messages are never persisted at rest. SOC 2 Type II certified. HIPAA BAA available on Enterprise plans.
