The Rippling Notification Problem

Rippling is the only platform that consolidates HRIS, IT, and payroll in a single product. When a new hire is confirmed in Rippling, the same platform provisions their laptop, sets up their software access, and adds them to the payroll — all from a single hire event in the Workflow Automator.

Rippling's messaging integration follows a Slack-first pattern: the Rippling Slack app allows HR and IT notifications to route to Slack channels from Workflow Automator steps. There is no equivalent for Microsoft Teams.

For organizations on Microsoft 365 — where most employees, managers, and executives use Teams — Rippling's Slack integration creates a visibility gap that is wider than it appears:

  • Hiring managers on Teams receive no notification when a new hire is confirmed. Day 1 preparation starts manually.
  • IT teams on Teams miss app provisioning completion events. New employees don't know their tools are ready.
  • Employees on Teams never receive device assignment confirmations from Rippling's device management module.
  • Executive leadership on Teams gets no org change or departure announcements — even though Rippling processes all of them.

What Makes Rippling Different

Unlike Workday (enterprise) or BambooHR (SMB), Rippling spans the HR-IT boundary. A single new hire event in Rippling simultaneously:

  1. Creates the employee record in the HRIS
  2. Provisions accounts in all configured SaaS apps (Google Workspace, GitHub, Salesforce)
  3. Creates a device management record for laptop enrollment
  4. Runs the onboarding workflow checklist

Rippling Workflow Automator Webhook Setup

Rippling's Workflow Automator supports webhook actions as steps in any workflow. To route Rippling events to Teams and Slack:

  1. In Rippling, open Workflow Automator and create or edit a workflow (e.g., New Hire Onboarding).
  2. Add a webhook action step. Paste your SyncRivo inbound endpoint URL.
  3. Configure the payload fields: employee name, department, role, start date, manager, and any IT provisioning fields you want to include.
  4. In SyncRivo, configure routing rules: hire events to the department Teams channel and IT in Slack, app provisioning completions to the new hire in Teams with access instructions, departure events to IT and HR simultaneously.

The Workflow Automator fires the webhook in real time when the trigger condition is met — new hire confirmed, employee terminated, role changed, device assigned.

Routing Rippling IT Events to Teams

Rippling's IT module is where the Teams gap is most costly. When Rippling provisions apps and devices for a new hire, the new employee needs to know their setup is complete. If the employee is on Teams, they won't see a Slack notification.

Route Rippling's app provisioning completion event to the new employee in Teams with a message listing their provisioned apps and next steps. Route device assignment events to the employee in Teams with enrollment instructions. These replace the "did my stuff get set up?" Day 1 calls to IT.

HR Events

New hire confirmed: Route to the department Teams channel with a welcome message, to the hiring manager in Slack with the new hire's details, and to IT in whichever platform they monitor for a provisioning heads-up.

Employee terminated: Route to IT in Slack with a deprovisioning checklist, to the manager in Teams with a transition note, and to HR for compliance tracking. One Rippling termination event — no missed deprovisioning step.

Role or department changed: Route to the employee's new team channel on Teams and to their previous team with a handoff note. Route to IT for permission updates. Org changes that used to require manual HR announcements now happen automatically.
