The Zoom Teams App Covers Meetings. Channel Messages Are Still Siloed. Here's the Fix.

What the Zoom App for Teams Actually Does

Zoom has built an app for Microsoft Teams — it's in the Teams App Store and has meaningful adoption in organizations that use Zoom for video conferencing and Teams for messaging. This app enables:

  1. Starting Zoom meetings from Teams — a "Start a Meeting" button and the ability to schedule Zoom meetings from the Teams calendar
  2. Zoom Phone / Zoom Calling — routing PSTN phone calls through Zoom's telephony infrastructure from within Teams

This is a meetings and telephony integration. It is not a messaging integration.

What It Doesn't Do

A message sent in a Zoom Team Chat channel does not appear in any Teams channel.

A Teams user's message in a Teams channel does not appear in any Zoom Team Chat channel.

The messaging layers are completely siloed, even with the Zoom Teams app installed. The app handles the "start a meeting" and "make a phone call" use cases — the same pattern as the Cisco Webex app for Teams. It leaves the "have a real-time channel conversation across platforms" use case unaddressed.

Who Hits This Problem

M&A: Zoom-Centric Organization + Microsoft 365 Organization

One organization uses Zoom as its primary video conferencing and messaging platform (Zoom Team Chat is the default messaging layer for Zoom-centric organizations). The other runs Microsoft 365 with Teams. The Zoom app helps with video calls after the merger. But for the day-to-day operational collaboration — project updates, incident response threads, shared project channels — the messaging remains siloed.

University and Education Environments

Many universities use Zoom for video conferencing and have Zoom Team Chat deployed as a side effect. Administrative offices run Teams under Microsoft 365 Education licensing. Research faculty use Zoom Team Chat (it came with their Zoom license). The IT department needs a bridge between the two — not just meeting scheduling.

Internal Mixed Stacks

Some organizations have departments standardized on Zoom (often because Zoom was purchased for video conferencing and Team Chat came along) while other departments run Teams under Microsoft 365 enterprise licensing. Channel-level collaboration between the two requires a message routing layer.

SyncRivo: Channel Messages Where the Zoom App Stops

SyncRivo connects to the Zoom API (OAuth2 bot tokens with Chat Channel and Message scopes) and the Microsoft Graph API (Microsoft 365 admin consent) simultaneously.

When a message is sent in a Zoom Team Chat channel, SyncRivo routes it to the mapped Teams channel in under 100ms — bidirectional, with full thread context and identity attribution (the real sender's name, not a bot label).

SyncRivo coexists with the Zoom Teams app. Meetings go through Zoom's infrastructure. Channel messages route through SyncRivo. Running both simultaneously gives you the complete integration stack: meetings, calling, and real-time channel collaboration across both platforms.

Setup takes approximately 20 minutes. SOC 2 Type II certified, HIPAA BAA available.
